Art & Soul 2019 Ocean City Now OPEN!
I’m excited to announce that Registration for Art & Soul Ocean City, MD is now OPEN! The retreat will be held at the amazing Princess Royale Oceanfront Resort and will be the inaugural event for this newest Art & Soul location! Workshops run all week from Sunday October 6 through Thursday October 10, 2019. Events include Meet-the-Teachers Night, Vendor Night and more! And, as always, there will be many fabulous workshops to choose from!
I’ll be teaching four workshop that week including:
DIY Art Supplies: Monday eve, October 6
In this class, I’ll show you all my artist tricks on how I save money creating my own stamps, stencils, texture tools, alcohol inks and more! Creating your own tools not only saves money, but, more importantly, it is integral to your own unique journey as an artist! Even if you’ve been at this for years or are just starting out, making your own tools means making your own marks and finding your own unique voice!
Journal Jumpstarts: Tuesday eve, October 7
Feeling stuck, in a creative rut, or need a little "boost" to help get your creativity going? Maybe you just need some time to relax, learn new techniques and breath life into your journals or other art projects? This workshop is great for all levels and anyone who'd like to get a little messy & explore new media in their art journals (and beyond! These techniques work great on canvas, too!) We'll drip, rip, collage, scrape, splatter, spray, smudge & smear using the gelli plate, stencils, spray ink, oil pastels, acrylic paints & inks to create a variety of textures, backgrounds and also cover a few simple concepts such as color, contrast & balance to create some dynamic pages!
Face Your Fears: Wednesday, October 8
Drawing faces--you either love it or you hate it! I'm here to show you how to LOVE it! I can show you how to create easy, simple, lovely faces in just a few steps. I have LOTS of tricks to help you create faces that you'll be proud of and want to create again and again. We'll start in our art journals, practicing face proportions and we'll also create gorgeous collage paper to add to our portraits. Then with newfound confidence & skills, we'll move to the canvas to create our beautiful portraits and give them life with layers, texture and finishing touches. We'll also explore using a variety of media: oil pastels, oil paint sticks, acrylic paint, acrylic ink, spray ink, & collage.
Beeswax Bird Journals: Thursday, October 9
It's the best of both worlds: beeswax collage and book making! We'll explore how to create a dimensional, layered & textured beeswax collage canvas cover using a variety of techniques & media. We'll build up the collage with color, ephemera & lightweight collage items using beeswax to adhere our items, create texture & seal the cover artwork. Then we'll bind our journal using watercolor paper, recycled silk sari ribbon & textured paper using an easy, new-sew technique. The pages will also be adorned with bits & bobs, fabric, trim and trim to add texture & color. The inside papers can be left blank or splashed with color, drips & a few "quick start" ideas to get our pages going!
I hope you can join us at this special location! Besides the amazing assortment of workshops to choose from, there is something so special about gathering with other like-minded, art-loving souls for a celebration of creativity and a shared love of all things mixed media!
